Pap Test
Early detection of cervical cancer can save lives!
The cervix is the muscular lower part of the uterus that extends into the
vagina. Cancer develops when healthy cells in this area become
abnormal and then turn malignant.
Each year an estimated 1,400 Canadian women are diagnosed with this cancer
and 400 die of it. This is the second most common malignancy
in Canadian women ages 20 - 44.
The symptoms are usually not noticeable until the cancer is advanced. Annual
PAP SMEARS in women under 35 years and every 2nd year pap smears in women
over 35 years with a history of 3 consecutive normal pap smears is recommend.
